Kindergarten Roundup & Preschool Screening by District

Parents of children ages 2-5: Kindergarten Enrollment and Preschool Screening are right around the corner!

Children who attend kindergarten are more likely to read proficiently by third grade, graduate from high school, and pursue higher education.

  • Children are eligible for kindergarten if they will turn age 5 on or before September 1st* of their enrollment year. 
  • Preschool Screening is recommended for children turning 3 or 4 years old by September 1st. See the MARESA-wide Preschool Screening flyer for dates and details.

Below, you will find details for each district’s Kindergarten Roundup and Preschool Screening. This information includes registration methods, event dates, necessary documentation, and contact details. Please refer to your district’s section for specific instructions.

School of Choice: 

The State School Aid Act provides each local school board with the option to participate in the state schools of choice program under sections 105 and 105c [MCL 388.1705 and 388.1705c]. The decision to participate in the program under one or both of the section(s) of this legislation is voluntary. 

*In accordance with state law, parents may need to sign a waiver to enroll their child who will turn 5 years of age between September 2nd and December 1st of their Kindergarten year.

Necessary Items: Birth certificate, immunization records, proof of residency, or school choice application.

Preschool Screening: Friday, May 2, 2025 by appointment. (Details are provided in the MARESA-wide Preschool Screening flyer).

Preschool Screening: Tuesday, May 6, 2025. (Details are provided in the MARESA-wide Preschool Screening flyer).

Registration Method: Kindergarten registration is open year-round; there is no specific registration period.

Preschool Screening: Tuesday, April 22, 2025 (Details are provided in the MARESA-wide Preschool Screening flyer).

Registration Method: Attend the Kindergarten Registration Event on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, from 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM. Parents and students can sign up for summer screening, complete paperwork, bring a birth certificate, and meet teachers.
Necessary Items: Birth certificate, immunization records, proof of residency.


Preschool Screening Date: Friday, April 25, 2025. (Details are provided in the MARESA-wide Preschool Screening flyer).

Registration Method: Online registration for the 2025-2026 school year opens on March 10, 2025. Families should register between March 10 - 14, 2025 at MAPS Kindergarten Registration. If online registration is not possible, families can contact their resident school for a registration packet.

Requirements: Children must be five years old by December 1, 2025. A waiver is required for children turning five between September 1 and December 1, 2025.

Upcoming Events: A Kindergarten enrollment/open house will be held in August, followed by a preschool enrollment/open house the following week (dates TBD).

Preschool Screening: Wednesday, April 2, 2025 (Details are provided in the MARESA-wide Preschool Screening flyer).



Registration Method: Families must first schedule a screening appointment by calling 906-475-7803 starting Monday, March 3, 2025. Screening takes place the week of April 21, 2025, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Negaunee.

Screening Appointments: 45-minute sessions available Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 3:00 PM. The screening team will determine placement in Kindergarten or Junior Kindergarten. Health Department representatives will conduct hearing, vision, and dental screenings.

Informational Meeting: Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at 6:00 PM at Lakeview School for parents.
Online Registration: After screenings, families will complete online registration. Required documents include a birth certificate, proof of residency, and immunization records.

Preschool Screening:

  • Dates: Monday, April 28 & Tuesday, April 29, 2025
  • Location: Immanuel Lutheran Church (520 US-41, Negaunee)
  • Registration: Call 906-475-7803 x144 or x143 starting February 24, 2025

  • Requirements: Children must be three years old by September 1, 2025

Registration Method: Attend the Kindergarten Roundup event on March 11, 2025, at Aspen Ridge, or call 906-485-3175 to request a registration packet and schedule a screening appointment.
Necessary Items: State-registered birth certificate and proof of residency.

Preschool Screening:

  • Date: May 15, 2025, at Aspen Ridge
  • Registration: Call CAAM at 906-228-6522 to schedule an appointment.

Registration Method: Families can apply online at northstaracademymqt.com or use the provided application links below. Enrollment is open for free public PK-8th grade Montessori education.

Enrollment Open House: Tuesday, March 11, 2025, from 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM.
Can’t attend? Families may enroll anytime by visiting northstaracademymqt.com.

Preschool Options:

  • 3-year-old Montessori Preschool – Tuition-based program.
  • 4-year-old GSRP Montessori Preschool – FREE program with limited spots available.

Necessary Items: Birth certificate, proof of residency, and immunization records.
Additional Event: Birth-to-4 playgroups start at 10:30 AM, with screenings integrated into playgroup activities.

Registration Method: Enrollment and school of choice forms are available under the District Information tab on Superior Central Schools' Website. Forms can be submitted to the elementary or MS/HS office.
Necessary Items: Birth certificate, immunization records, and proof of residency.
